Evidently a lot of people have been finding their way to this site because they’re looking for the answer to a Car Talk Puzzle I mentioned a while back. This one, specifically:
“A common one-syllable, five-letter word that has the following unique property. When you remove the first letter, the remaining letters form a homophone of the original word, that is a word that sounds exactly the same. Replace the first letter, that is, put it back and remove the second letter and the result is yet another homophone of the original word.”
I didn’t want to post the answer while the contest was running, but the word is “scent.”

Llama won't work cuz it's two syllables.
